Training
I spent the next few weeks trying to get trained
and geared up for the walk. Twenty miles a day! Would I be able to make it? With
less than six weeks to train, I had some doubts. On one training walk, I met Lynn, who had walked
the 3-Day when it was done by Avon. She had a lot of great advice too and she
made a nice donation. I talked to another 3-Day walker, Liz Brunson,
via email. She gave me my first donation! We didn’t think about trying to meet
up at the 3-Day event until it was over, but have promised to get together soon.
I worked with Body n’ Sole in Champaign to make
sure my gear was fitting properly, wicking well, and not going to cause
blisters, well, at least not many. One of the staff made a personal donation and
the store also gave a discount on the gear I purchased for the walk. My longest training day, August 28, took me from
the Assembly Hall parking lot to the outskirts of Thomasboro. A total of 16.5
miles. It was then, that I felt as if I might actually be able to pull this off.
It took most of the afternoon. Now, If I could only raise the funds.
